JOHOR BARU: The Johor Baru Central Municipal Council (MPJBT) has urged owners of premises that have received notices to demolish illegal structures at their buildings to take heed or risk the council taking action.
Demolish Illegal Structures, Building Owners Warned Share on XMPJBT secretary Abdul Malik Ismail said the owners were advised to take down the illegal structures such as extended zinc roofing and pathways that were not in accordance with the council’s specifications once they receive such notices.
Abdul Malik said in the Taman Sutera Utama area along Jalan Sutera Tanjung 8/2, Jalan Sutera Tanjung 8/3 and Jalan Sutera Tanjung 8/4, there were a total of 41 such premises that have received between three to six notices since 2011.

“We have so far taken down the structures at 16 premises in the area while eight more are pending action. There are another 16 more premises we have yet to take action on but will do so in our ongoing operations,” he said recently.
One of the premises in Jalan Sutera Tanjung 8/2, a restaurant, that was demolished recently, received six notices since 2014, he said.
“Despite the notices to the owner, no initiatives were taken by them to demolish the structures installed as well as renovations that caused obstruction at the pathway for the public,” said Abdul Malik.
He added that a total of nine heavy machinery were deployed including two excavators, four clippers and three lorries to carry out the demolition works from 9am to 5pm.
“If the owners continue to ignore the notices served, the council will demolish the illegal structures and charge the overall cost to the owner,” he said.
